Print from Mac OS X Mavericks V 10.9 to a Windows 7 or Windows 8 (8.1) Shared Printer

Once again an upgrade of MAC OSX (this time to Mavericks) broke my ability to print to my printer which is currently shared from a Windows 8 machine. And once again I've figured out what's changed and have been able to print from my Macbook Pro running Mac OS X Mavericks Version 10.9 to my printer which is shared from Windows 8.1

One of the best things to come out of this is that I've finally been able to use the "standard" way of connecting to a shared Windows printer. Meaning that I was able to click the "Windows" button, find my printer, and successfully print.

This time around I learned a very important lesson! Mac OS X will only install the printer driver you need if you first hook the printer up DIRECTLY to the Mac OS X machine!

Here's the drivers to choose from when you haven't first hooked the printer up directly to the Mac OS X Mavericks machine:

Mac OS X Printer Drivers available from Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 network shared printer

Therefore even when connecting to a shared printer the first step should be to unhook the printer from the Windows 7 or Windows 8 machine, hook it up to your Mac OS X machine and Mac OS X will download the correct driver.

Now connect the printer back to the Windows 7 or Windows 8 machine.

Now when you connect to the Windows printer from Mac OS X Mavericks you'll find that you have the exact driver you need. Select the proper driver for your printer and everything will work!
